Whispering Pines Review
12/4/10
Professor Louie & The Crowmatix Whispering Pines. A prolific and creative singer-pianist-organist-keyboardist, Professor Louie brings us a new album, which is always welcomed. Once again Louie successfully combines with great taste, creativity and a certain air of mystery, compositions of different authors, performed with his own captivating style, thanks to his wide and varied knowledge of Afroamerican popular music, he tastefully and cleverly plays. Ten superb cuts with amazing arrangements and a faultless final production, with songs coming from Richard Manuel ("Whispering Pines") or Robbie Robertson ("The Weight") to Leonard Cohen ("In My Secret Life") or traditional ones like "Ain't No More Cane." It is an ambitious project, including nine guest musicians besides his band and the Virginia Youth Symphony Orchestra in the song "Forever & Ever" by Jack W. Dupree. If you like good eclectic music, with different influences from blues to pop, rock, soul, Americana and New Orleans, then you will really love album that I dare say will surprise you for many reasons you will gradually discover. GREAT.
