In 1902, film pioneer Georges Melies began filming on his incredible epic film based on the Jules Verne classic - "Le Voyage Dans La Lune." This is the movie that started it all: the first Sci-Fi flick and the first movie to use special effects. Science Fiction - Dancers from the Follies Bergieres and the Moulin Rouge. With sets, script and camera work (the first special effects and stop action camera work) all designed by Melies, "Le Voyage Dans La Lune" was supposed to be Melies’ entry into the USA’s exploding film market and his ticket to fame and fortune on both sides of the pond. Instead, a semi-final print was stolen, reportedly through The Thomas Edison Company, shown throughout the USA prior to Melies’ arrival and was a huge sensation. Of course, Melies arrived with his film that everyone had already seen and he went bankrupt.
A few years ago, Composer Robert Ian Winstin saw this cinematic science fiction film and decided to conduct an experiment. He crafted a fresh musical score to the silent adventure and then enlisted three other musicians to do the same. In choosing four very different composers you also get four very different aesthetic aural visions of the film.
Each approach shades the time honored images with a distinct aura. Listen to the rowdy, R & B influenced themes of Professor Louie Hurwitz and The Crowmatix, which give the picture a joyous air.
"Le Voyage Dans La Lune" is presented here with four exciting and original new film scores; each new film score on a separate version of the film plus an audio CD of all the scores!
