BIO - Philadelphia-based band-- the CABIN DOGS (formerly the Kwait Brothers Band)-- have teamed up with Woodstock Records (home of the late Rick Danko, Garth Hudson, Buckweat Zydeco) to Release ELECTRIC CABIN . With nine tracks of original Cosmic American Blues (plus a cover of Neil Young's One of These Days), the new album is the latest from the song-writing/production team of twin brothers Rich and Rob Kwait (who have released two previous albums under the name Kwait Brothers Band (2000's Hillside and 2002's Outland Disco). Their earlier work (both as a live band and in the studio) has drawn favorable comparisons to such seminal groups as The Band, Grateful Dead and Buffalo SpringfieldS.and the new album stands to build on this sound and bring the CABIN DOGS national attention. Recorded and mixed in a yellow farmhouse at the foot of Hurley Mountain (LRS Studios - outside of Woodstock)- this album is the brothers' first to be recorded outside of Philadelphia. It is also the first to use an outside co-producer Aaron "Professor Louie" Hurwitz. The brothers met "Professor Louie" at a mutual gig at The Point (a legendary venue outside of Philadelphia). "We struck up a friendship and decided to make a record together." explains Rob. "At the time, we knew a little about Louie, but weren't really aware of the extent to which he worked with The Band and Rick Danko and also Mercury Rev, Graham Parker, Tony Trischka and Livingston Taylor to name a few. He was the perfect collaborator on this project." "We also decided to do the whole record in upstate NY," explains Rich, "partly to work a little outside the norm for a Philly band, and partly to capture some of that funky upstate vibe that we felt in the mountain cabins where we wrote most of the album." In 2004, the Cabin Dogs (under the KBB name) played the Newport Folk Festival (helping to introduce Wilco to the stage) and recently played a sold-out show upstairs at the World Caf Live in Philadelphia. The band has been invited to play the Appel Farm Music and Arts Festival in Elmer N.J in early JuneS. to be followed up with another appearance downstairs at the World Caf Live later that month . Look for CD Release parties in Philadelphia and New York in Spring 2006. |
